  1. In my youth, I had witnessed all the records of those years’ heroes. I am referring to 1950 to 1977 ie. Pre-entry of Kamal and Rajini. Generally, MGR films were running packed houses, even flop movies too ran upto one month with houseful shows. If the strength of the theatre is below ¾ it would be shifted to other towns, where it ran with packed houses with profit motive and days were not taken into account. That is why some of the best movies were also shifted to other towns when 6 – 8 number of films released consecutively, in the years 1963 to 1968. The main reason is that the salary of MGR and the cost of production of MGR films were always higher than the other Actors. Whereas the same were cheaper for other actors and hence films were allowed to run with quarter / half theatre strength to 100 days and even upto Silver Jubilee week, if marginal profit was there, such of those films should not be compared even with the collections of 50 days of MGR films. MGR had severe setbacks during 1959, when there was fracture in his right leg, he could not act on films for few months, in which Baga Pirivinai turned to be box office hit of the year. In the same year Veerapandiya Kattabomman was produced at a huge cost ran more than 100 days but the collections were not even nearer to the production cost. The same was happened to Karnan also in 1964. In 1960, MGR got recovered and recouped with and did acting to complete the unfinished films, in that year Kalyana Parisu became box office hit. Thereafter from 1961 to 1977 except 1972 his films were box office hits and all time records consecutively. In the year 1972, Vasantha Maligai became all time record, in which year MGR was expelled from DMK and he was terribly disturbed and the fans were behind him to tackle the situation and he had to encounter the hurdles given by the DMK Govt. then and hence virtually he could not concentrate on the films. However, few films already completed were released in which Nalla Neram stood second in collection. In 1973 itself the record of Vasantha Maligai was beaten by Ulagam Sutrum Valiban an all time record. Shivaji himself fed up with regard to poor collection of his films and started doing over-acting for which there was a query from the Press People regarding his over-acting, Shivaji lamented and said nowadays the people of TN want only over-acting or otherwise they are not seeing his films. All other Actors used to act to the required level, which was accepted by the people, whereas Shivaji’s over-acting could not be digested by the people except a few. This being the situation then, why the fans of Shivaji are in angry with MGR? Both of them are not alive now. The MGR fans were that much devoted and dedicated to MGR had high hope on his Fans, who served as defense force for the mission of their mentor during crisis in politics they worked hard day and night and lifted MGR to the position of Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu. Whereas the unfaithful fans of Shivaji could not make him a member of Legislative Assembly, which he had to lose even in his own native constituency with a margin of more than 10,000 votes. The Fans should feel shame on them and cannot match them with the fans of MGR in any aspect. The problem is not with MGR and Shivaji. One who was wounded and lost the battle used to lament and cry and always try to revenge on the won. The fans of Shivaji should realize their own recklessness and failures on their part when he was alive. Let Shivaji fans watch the activities of Kamal, Rajini, Vijayakanth, Sathyaraj, Sarathkumar, Vikram, Ajith, Vijay, Surya, Simbu, Karthik and so on. They are prepared to do anything for their mentor. Is that spirit is with Shivaji Fans. Their own sense of pricking heart, soul and conscious would make them realize their follies and failures on their part earlier and they have nothing to talk about the present and future. Now that the past proven track records and history cannot be changed by anyone. Let MGR glory flourish.
